Born in Moca, Puerto Rico, Jackelyn Segui has been an art enthusiast and it is what she has chosen to dedicate her life to.

In September 2017, she started her graduate studies in Performing Arts at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Savannah, Georgia, in the course of the atmospheric phenomenon Hurricane María. It was very difficult for her to be far away from the island & family, without being able to be of greater help.

After the hurricane, many lost their homes, belongings, livestock, went hungry, & even came across death. In her humble position as an artist, she had to collect the less-well-known stories &/or highlight those that were pillars of communication & the advocates of the community voice.

She felt it is her duty to document them & bring them to those who knew little of Puerto Rico's history, culture, &  human quality.

She decided to combine these stories  & with them create a theatrical piece for her thesis, taking their stories to the ears of Americans.

Puerto Rico Goes Dark: Stories of My People is completely based on interviews, news reports, audios, & ongoing research on the subject.
